Finally! Microsoft apologizes and extends warranty for Xbox 360

I’m married to a geek. And, like most geeks, gaming is a part of life (I have to admit, I love games too). When the Xbox 360 was released, we just had to have one. Granted, we didn’t wait in line to buy one at launch. We saved up and bought one after the rush. And, as many gamers know, the 360 has been plagued with issues. So much so that Xbox 360 has become synonimous with the term ‘red-ring of death.’ And, believe me, we’ve had our share of issues as well. In fact, we’re on our 5th console with fingers crossed that we won’t have problems in the near future.

What has made this annoying, is that most people have had to pay a pretty penny to repair or replace their units because the warranty had expired. Today, Microsoft has made good on their popular system. They have extend the warranty to 3 years worldwide and will reimburse folks who have paid for repairs/replacement. You hardly ever hear of a company like Microsoft making good with consumers. But, it seems that the issues surrounding their console have forced them to do something about it. And, you know what, I applaud them for it.

To be honest, we waited long enough to buy ours that we were aware of some of the problems with the 360. So, upon purchasing the unit at our local Best Buy, we also purchased the 2-year replacement warranty. It was only $20 and we’re on our 5th unit. I’d say it’s paid off for us.

Still, I’m glad that such a large company not only listened to consumers, but decided to do something about it. Kudos to Microsoft.
