What do the top 3 billionaires in America drive?

We’re having a little fun on the MoneyTalk Blog today. I was curious about what some of America’s richest drive. I wasn’t looking at folks like the Walton kids or people that inherited their wealth, but those that started like you and me, with nothing. I found an interesting tidbit about the top 3 wealthiest Americans: Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, Paul Allen.

I found out that Gates, Buffet and Allen have quite a bit in common when it comes to cars. Despite their fortune, they actually drive modest vehicles. Gates and Allen both own and drive a 1988 Porsche 959 Coupe. But, they drive this sport car in Europe, not in the states. Gates uses his 1999 Porsche 911 convertible to get around. Allen gets around in a 1988 Mazda B-Series pickup.

What about Buffet? Turns out this guy lives up to his thrifty reputation. Buffet drives a 2001 Lincoln Town Car Signature Series.

With all of the money they have at their disposal you’d think they’d have the latest and newest vehicles. But no, they choose to drive not-so-new yet reliable vehicles. Makes me feel a little better about our poj (piece-of-junk/paid-off-jalopy).
